‘The Blank Expression’

An ongoing project in which I focus on the ones who pass through and interact with urban spaces.

‘The Blank Expression’ notices the unnoticed. It revolves around lone travellers who pass through urban spaces on autopilot, absorbed in their devices and thoughts, disregarding the chaotic yet thriving environment that dwarfs them. They appear on the street as shells of themselves, displaying little to no emotion -extras in a never-ending performance. The series originated from its creator, Sam Pierce, who realised that he was a passerby and decided to capture the sense of being one, along with his unacquainted counterparts.

In a similar vein, significant focus has been places on documenting and isolating the traces left by those who interact with the street, for better of worse. These marks on the street left by others allude to the concept of sonder, highlighting the abundance of narratives that often slip away, fading into obscurity.

This series featured in a student led exhibition ,’When You’re This Small’, in May 2025 at Bankley Studios and Gallery, Manchester.
